Auto Fuel-Economy Rule Has ‘Flexibility,’ U.S. Says

...Companies such as Daimler AG and Bayerische Motoren Werke AG that sell fewer than 400,000 vehicles in the U.S. may be able to initially meet a weaker standard than bigger carmakers, said Dan Becker, director of the Washington-based Safe Climate Campaign. Also, electric vehicles would get credit for not running on gasoline, even though electricity-generation emissions wouldn’t count against the standard, he said in an e- mail.
