New mileage standards cheer green lobby

Dan Becker, director of the Safe Climate Campaign, an environmental group, said the new standards would lead to a 30 percent reduction in greenhouse gas emissions from cars and trucks by 2016.

“This is the biggest single step we can take to lower global warming pollution,” Becker said.
