“For the first time in decades, you have General Motors and Ford making money and producing vehicles that are more efficient than probably ever,” Becker said. “They can’t deny that consumers are coming into showrooms and demanding more- efficient cars. That means it will be harder for them to come to Washington and say consumers don’t want them...” ...While any annual fuel-efficiency increase will help consumers, the higher it is, the higher the savings will be for drivers, said Safe Climate’s Becker. “All of Washington is trying to figure out how to help people out with pain at the pump,” said Becker.
